3" to 4" (75mm-100mm) Descale & Clean Kit (Cast iron & clay pipes)

This drain cleaning kit is designed primarily for removing lime scale, tuberculation, and other hard incrustations in pipes made from cast iron, cement, vitrified clay, or similarly harder materials.

However, it is not recommended for use with PVC pipes, as the circular chains equipped in this kit have hard alloy bits fused to the individual chain links. These cutting edges could potentially cause damage to PVC pipes, especially if they remain stationary for extended periods while the shaft is rotating inside the pipe.

In contrast to conventional chain knockers, the circular chain also offers the advantage of preventing individual blows to the pipe wall. Instead, the chain works over the full inner circumference of the pipe, ensuring a more uniform descaling process.

The tools provided in the kit are lightweight and compact, making it convenient to transport them in elevators and allowing for more flexibility in dealing with blockages in high-rise buildings, without the risk of flooding neighboring apartments.

Setting up the kit is quick and easy as it only requires attaching it to your drill, and you're ready to begin the descaling process.

The kit includes various components, a Flex Shaft complete with sleeve and friction rings, Drill to Shaft Adapter, Circular Chain (With Hard Tips) DN100 / 4", Circular Chain (With Hard Tips) DN75 / 3", and Crown Drill Head without chains.

It is essential to consider the material used for the chains, which are made from stainless steel to prevent oxidation. The chains are securely fastened to the shaft with hex screws. The shaft allows easy repair of any kinks in it with an angle grinder and reconnection within minutes, rather than replacing the entire shaft.

The outer sleeve of the shaft is equipped with friction rings to protect the ends from wear and prevent dirt buildup, ensuring efficient and long-lasting performance of the tool. The sleeve is also heat and chemical resistant, providing safety during handling, even in confined spaces.

For more experienced users, using a sewer cleaning camera alongside the kit allows real-time monitoring of the descaling process while preventing any damage to the camera cable.

When selecting the shaft thickness, it's essential to consider the number of bends you need to navigate. Thinner shafts are more flexible but deliver less torque, while thicker shafts provide higher torque but are less flexible. The kit offers different shaft thicknesses suitable for various pipe diameters.

During the initial use of the shaft, some shrinkage may occur due to the stresses of multiple bends and torque. However, this is normal, and the shrinkage will stop after the inner strands settle into their permanent position. If you notice shrinkage, you can simply cut off the affected section with an angle grinder and reconnect the chains and drill.

To ensure the best performance and longevity of the shaft, it is crucial to lubricate it before the first use and regularly check the lubrication every few weeks. Lubrication not only enhances efficiency over longer distances but also extends the lifespan of the shaft.
