This kit is not a replacement for your high-pressure water jetter or hydro jetter when it comes to removing sand deposits. However, when it comes to grinding up tree roots or descaling the inner circumference of cast iron or clay pipes, this tool is a game changer.

It has the power to obliterate solid blockages that your high-pressure jetting machine may struggle with. Whether it's root intrusion, cement, or heavy scale, this tool can grind them into manageable chunks that easily flow away, preventing further blockages down the line.

Please note that this kit is not suitable for PVC pipes due to its aggressive metal alloy tips fused to the cutting edge. It is more suited for pipes made from cement, vitrified clay, cast iron, metal, and similar hard materials.

The X-tip chains that come with this kit are our most aggressive chains. They have a crown drill head which has a 25mm (1”) opening diameter, meant for cutting in a forward direction. These drain cleaning chains have X-shaped “teeth” that can rasp away anything in their path.

Many pipe rehabilitation professionals find this kit particularly useful for extracting failed liners. It can grind up a failed liner faster than chemical softeners, although we recommend using our Croco Bore for reinstatement tasks alongside this tool.

The kit comprises of:

A flex shaft complete with sleeve and friction rings

A drill to Shaft Adapter

X-Tip Chain (with drill head) DN75 / 3"

X-Tip Chain (with drill head) DN100 / 4"

Toilet Blockages:

When it comes to toilet blockages, some clients rely on this kit for day-to-day usage. The shaft is covered with a chemical and heat-resistant sleeve, ensuring there's no need to remove the toilet pan to access soft blockages in the toilet waste line near the toilet itself.

These tools are lightweight and compact, making it easy to transport them in an elevator and providing more options for dealing with blockages in high-rise buildings. You won't have to worry about flooding someone's apartment.

Setting up is quick and easy—all you need to do is attach the tool to your drill, and you're good to go.

Descaling Pipes:

Apart from blockage removal, this tool excels at descaling cast iron and clay pipes. It allows you to remove lime scale buildup faster and more effectively than using a jetting machine or hydro jetter alone. By doing so, you avoid encountering large broken-up chunks of scale that could potentially cause further pipe blockage.

Here are some additional facts to consider:

Experienced users often use a sewer cleaning camera simultaneously to have a real-time view of their work. The protective sleeve covering the shaft protects the camera cable from damage.

The sleeve is heat and chemical resistant, ensuring your hands stay safe while handling the shaft.

The shaft sleeve is equipped with friction rings to protect the ends from wear and prevent dirt buildup, ensuring the tool's efficiency and longevity.

About the drain cleaning chains:

Each tool consists of three individual chains that use centrifugal force to center the tool inside the pipe, ensuring comprehensive cleaning of the entire inner diameter.

The chains are adjustable, allowing you to clean a wider range of pipe diameters with the same chain. Simply increase or decrease the space between the hubs that secure the chain to the shaft.

The chains are made from stainless steel to prevent oxidation and are fastened to the shaft with hex screws.

Repairing a kinked shaft is quick and easy when using hex screws. Simply slice off the kinked section with an angle grinder and reconnect the shaft within minutes, saving you from having to replace the entire shaft.

About the flexible shafts:

Consider ordering the kit with a short flex shaft for everyday use and keeping a second shaft and connector in your van. This allows you to carry less shafts with you on a daily basis. If you need extra length, fetch your secondary flex shaft from your vehicle and connect it to the one you are currently working with.

Having two separate shafts provides a backup in case of accidental kinking, eliminating the need to cut off the kinked section before continuing work.

Choosing the appropriate shaft thickness depends on the number of bends you need to navigate. Thinner shafts are more flexible but deliver less torque, while thicker shafts offer more torque but are less flexible.

The 6mm (1/4") flexible shaft is suitable for 50mm (2") pipes and can handle multiple bends. It is better suited for blockage removal than descaling.

The 8mm (5/16") flexible shaft is our second most flexible option, capable of passing through multiple bends. It offers more torque and works well with pipes ranging from 75mm (3") to 100mm (4").

The 10mm (3/8") flexible shaft is less flexible than the 8mm (5/16") shaft but more flexible than the 12mm (1/2"). It can navigate through fewer bends while providing similar torque to the 12mm (1/2"). It suits pipes ranging from 75mm (3") to 150mm (6").

The 12mm (1/2") flexible shaft is the most rigid option, offering the highest torque ratio. It is ideal for descaling and removing blockages in lines ranging from 100mm (4") to 250mm (10").

Shaft Shrinkage

Upon initial use, you may notice a slight shrinkage of the shaft ends. This is normal due to the stresses of bending and torque. After settling into their permanent position, the shrinkage will cease. Simply cut off the shrunken section with an angle grinder and reconnect the chains and drill. Welding the ends is not necessary but be cautious of excessive heat on the shaft if you do decide to weld them.

Lubrication of flexible shaft before first time usage

Before using your flexible shaft for the first time, remember to lubricate it. Lubrication ensures the longevity and efficiency of the shaft over longer distances. Check the lubrication regularly every few weeks. Please refer to our instructional video on how to lubricate your shaft:
